He met “Vicious Vic” Grimes after regularly attending independent wrestling performances during his adolescent years. Hawxhurst eventually received complete training from Grimes after remaining in touch with him.
In 1999, Hawxhurst made his pro wrestling debut as Perry Douglas against Lightning Kid Jerry Riner in Pensacola, Florida. Soon after, he toured the independent circuit in the United States before signing with Xtreme Pro Wrestling.
Hawxhurst was put in a tag team with Altar Boy Matthew to create The Altar Boys when he made his XPW debut under the ring name Altar Boy Luke. Both Luke and Matthew shaved their heads and wore white preaching robes to accentuate their characteristics.
Luke began fighting as a singles wrestler when Matthew quit XPW due to family issues, and he competed in the ultimate King of the Deathmatch Tournament to become the next King of the Deathmatch Champion.
Hawx was a two-time World Heavyweight Champion in the World Association of Wrestling, a British wrestling organization managed by the family of WWE Women’s competitor Paige, in 2016.
WildKat Sports & Entertainment, a professional wrestling school in Hawxhurst’s birthplace of New Orleans, Louisiana, was formed in June 2011 by Hawxhurst and fellow professional wrestler Orlando Jordan. WILDKAT, which was once known as NWA WildKat during its 10-month time as a National Wrestling Alliance territory, is also based at the school.
